Football without fear
Football without frontiers was the EURO 2000™ motif – but we also got football without fear. The 16 competing nations turned on the style, playing with a spirit of adventure that led to a record 85 goals in 31 matches. France won the tournament but, with the Lowlands playing host to matches packed with high drama, there was so much to celebrate for fans of all the countries.
France 2 - 1 Italy
David Trézéguet's golden goal won the European Championship for France. It took an injury-time equaliser from Sylvain Wiltord to take the game into extra-time after Marco Delvecchio's opener, before Trézéguet's golden moment. It was a heartbreaking finish for an Italian side which had played positively.
