Canadian Forces presented an award (posthumously) to the Right Honourable Brian Dickson
NR-99.016 - February 19, 1999
OTTAWA The Right Honourable Brian Dickson PC. CC. CD, Retired Chief Justice of Canada received the Canadian Forces Medallion for Distinguished Service (posthumously) in a ceremony held in National Defence Headquarters, Ottawa, today. The Chief of Defence Staff, General Maurice Baril, presented the medallion to Mrs Barbara Melville (wife of the late Chief Justice Brian Dickson).
This award is given in recognition of The Honourable Brian Dicksons outstanding chairmanship of the Special Commission on the Restructuring of the Reserves, the Special Advisory Group on Military Justice and Military Police Investigation Services, and the Military Police Services Review Group. As much as his decisions affected Canadians while serving as Canadas Chief Justice, the recommendation of his studies have affected every member of the Canadian Forces.
The Canadian Forces Medallion for Distinguished Service is presented to persons who are not members of the Canadian Forces and who render service of a rare and exceptionally high standard, which is of a great benefit to the CF as a whole.
