Bank of America buys up critical domain names

By Rick Rothacker

Web savvy critics of Bank of America Corp. have fewer online options for slamming the bank's executives and directors nowadays.

In recent days, Internet domains with derogatory references to top leaders have been bought up, according to Domain Name Wire. Addresses referring to the bank's CEO include BrianMoynihanBlows.com and BrianMoynihanSucks.com.

Other names that have been snapped up reference chairman Chad Holliday and chief financial officer Chuck Noski, among others.

It's not unusual for companies to defend their reputations by taking unflattering domain names off the market. The names aren't registered to Bank of America but to a company called MarkMonitor, which says it delivers "brand protection" to 50 of the Fortune 100 companies. "Get a grip on your domains before someone else does," the firm's Website says.

A Bank of America spokesman declined comment.

The nation's biggest bank hasn't been able to snap up every potentially embarrassing name. A disgruntled customer, for example, started bankofamericasucks.com in 2003.
